Chris Jones is the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources programs in Gila County. He has served Gila County and the State of Arizona in this role since 1999.
Through the years, Agent Jones has led the Gila County Master Gardener program, as well as managed educational programs in water and watersheds (Master Watershed Stewards), forest health, noxious weed management, climate science education, and community wildfire mitigation (Arizona Firewise). In 2008, Chris was a Fulbright Scholar in Guatemala where he taught watershed education to students and professionals. Chris has been an Extension educator since earning a B.S. degree in Forestry at Northern Arizona University in 1988, the same year he joined the Peace Corps (Guatemala–Agroforestry |1988-1990). He earned a M.S. degree in Renewable Natural Resources at the University of Arizona in 1995. Chris served as Territorial Forester of American Samoa and managed U.S. Department of Agriculture’s State and Private Forestry programs from 1996 to 1999. He is presently a steering committee member of the Arizona Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network.
